Extraordinary PHOTOSHOOT for REQUIEM FOR THE LIVING with famous photographer MERWELENE VAN DER MERWE

Requiem for the Living is receiving star treatment lately.

As part of the build-up to this dramatic musical production, SA’s renowned fashion photographer Merwelene van der Merwe recently gave up her valuable time to photograph some of our “praise singer”cast members in her own inimitable way.

I devised a storyboard for this photoshoot with the help of a very good friend of mine from UCT days, Michele Hill, herself a performer of note with whom I performed in story theatre and musical cabaret in previous years.

The main themes of the Requiem, associated with the four elements, translate into a symbolic journey describing the transitional process unfolding from Disintegration to Integration, in TURNING AWAY FROM DEATH TO LIFE

Tackling each Requiem for the Living symbolic theme, Merwelene developed our storyboard sections and shot photos of our cast members depicting these themes, utilising the elements of FIRE, EARTH, WATER and AIR.

Below this text are her storyboard developments on the original themes, and some my own snapshots taken at the photoshoot recently.

Watch this space for the finished art photos created by Merwelene when I post them nearer to the production!
