CHARLOTTE HULLEY    Director and Chairperson, Requiem for the Living

Charlotte is driven by innovative, creative and critical thinking which has been paramount in her current position as the Social Responsibility Coordinator at Roedean.

Over the last 12 years she has designed, adapted and managed the implementation of a social responsibility programme that has brought civil society and marginalised communities into the heart of the Roedean community.

The programme received recognition and affirmation from both the Gauteng Department of Education and the private sector for its emphasis on sustainability, social cohesion and impact and for challenging contemporary notions of charity and social development.

Charlotte has over 25 years of experience building on an academic foundation in Social Work from the University of Cape Town. She began her career as a debriefer for the Truth and Reconciliation Commission and took up positions addressing gender-based violence with the Southern Cape Black Sash Advice Office and the National Institute for Crime Prevention and the Rehabilitation of Offenders.

She also spent several years with the Centre for the Study of Violence and Reconciliation, developing materials and designing facilitation processes for the Youth Violence Prevention programme, and addressing the challenges of transformation and transition in South African schools.

Charlotte has lived and worked in multiple contexts, including Ethiopia, Sri Lanka and the United Kingdom, gaining experience in the education and development sectors and completing a post graduate course in International Development at the University of Birmingham.
